This Privacy Policy explains how Unsent (“Unsent,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), operated by DFANS INC, collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects your personal information when you use our websites, mobile applications, and related services (collectively, the “Services”).
Please read this Policy carefully. By creating an account, tapping “Agree,” or continuing to use the Services after being presented with this Policy, you acknowledge that you have read and understood it. Where a feature requires a separate consent (for example, sharing chat content with AI-related processors), we will ask for that consent in the app before the relevant data is sent.
If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not use the Services.
This Policy covers:
- How we collect and use your information
- AI features and generative AI processing
- How we share, transfer, and disclose information
- Third-party information sharing list
- Device permissions
- Cookies and similar technologies
- How we store and protect your information
- Your rights and choices

1. How We Collect and Use Your Information
We collect information in three main ways: (a) information you provide directly; (b) information we collect automatically when you use the Services; and (c) information from third parties where you authorize it (for example, contacts matching after you grant permission).
Because different features need different data, if you refuse to provide information required for a specific feature, you may be unable to use that feature, but you can still use other parts of the Services that do not depend on that information, unless a particular item is required by law.
1.1 Account registration and profile
To create and maintain your account, we may collect:
| Purpose | Information | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Phone sign-up / login | Phone number, country/region code, SMS verification code | Required for phone-based auth |
| Email verification | Email address, verification code | If you choose email-related steps |
| Profile | Display name, username, age/birth-related info, avatar/photo | Used to show your profile and personalize the product |
| Account security | Password (stored in hashed/protected form where applicable), device/session signals | Used to authenticate and protect your account |
Use: create and manage your account, verify identity where needed, show your profile to you and (as applicable) other users, and secure the Services.
1.2 Contacts and friend discovery
If you grant Contacts permission, we may read contacts stored on your device (for example display names and phone numbers locally) and upload phone numbers (not contact names) to our servers to check which contacts already use Unsent and to help you find or follow friends.
| Purpose | Information sent to our servers | Local-only |
|---|---|---|
| Friend / registration matching | Phone numbers from your address book | Contact display names and photos may be used on-device for display |
Use: discover friends who are already on Unsent; show invite/status states in Contacts-related screens.
You may deny Contacts access. Denying access does not block core chat with AI personas or existing conversations, but friend-discovery features that depend on contacts will be limited. Where available, we encourage selecting contacts in a more limited way rather than requiring continuous full access.
1.3 Messaging, chat history, and media
When you use messaging features, we may process:
- Message content you send or receive (text and, if supported, images, audio, video, or other attachments)
- Conversation metadata (participants, timestamps, delivery/read-related status, conversation IDs)
- Safety signals needed for abuse reporting, blocking, or content moderation
Use: deliver messages, display conversation history, provide notifications (if enabled), operate customer support/safety tools, and enable AI reply features described in Section 2.
1.4 Push notifications
If you enable notifications, we may process device push tokens and notification-related delivery status so we can send alerts (for example new messages).
Push notifications are optional. You can skip enabling them during onboarding and change them later in system settings. Refusing notifications does not prevent you from using the core Services.
1.5 Microphone and voice features
If you use voice-related features, we may request microphone permission and process audio you choose to record or send.
Microphone access is optional. Refusing it only affects voice features; other features remain available.
1.6 Device, log, and usage information
To keep the Services secure and reliable, we may automatically collect:
- Device model, OS version, app version, language, time zone
- IP address, network type, crash logs, performance diagnostics
- Approximate interaction data (for example feature usage counts, screen flow for debugging/product improvement)
Use: security, fraud prevention, troubleshooting, analytics for improving the Services, and compliance with legal obligations.
1.7 Customer support and safety
When you contact us or use reporting/blocking tools, we collect the information you submit (and related account/conversation context needed to investigate).
Use: respond to requests, enforce our Terms, and protect users and the platform.
1.8 Information we do not sell
We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent your personal information for money.
2. AI Features and Generative AI Processing
Unsent provides AI-powered messaging experiences, including conversations with AI personas / digital characters (sometimes labeled “AI” or similar in the product).
2.1 What this feature does
When you chat with an AI persona, your message may be processed to:
- Generate an AI reply
- Deliver and display the conversation
- Maintain conversation context needed for the feature to work
AI replies are machine-generated. They are not messages from a real human unless the product clearly indicates otherwise.
2.2 What data may be sent
Depending on the feature you use, the following may be processed:
- Message content you enter (and attachments you choose to send, if any)
- Necessary account / conversation identifiers (such as user ID, conversation ID, and related routing IDs)
- Limited profile context needed to operate the feature (for example display name shown in chat)
Please do not include sensitive personal data in chats unless necessary. If you choose to include it, it will be processed as part of the conversation content described in this Policy.
2.3 Who receives the data and why
| Recipient | What may be shared | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
Unsent / DFANS INC servers (api.unsent.chat) | Message content, account/conversation identifiers, necessary metadata | Operate chat APIs, store/display conversations (as applicable), trigger AI replies, security & abuse prevention |
| Instant messaging provider — Hangzhou NetEase Quality Cloud Technology Co., Ltd. (杭州网易质云科技有限公司), operating NetEase Yunxin / 网易智企云信 IM | Messaging payloads and delivery metadata needed for IM | Message transport, delivery, and related IM capabilities |
| AI routing provider — OpenRouter, Inc. | Conversation content and necessary identifiers needed for model inference (subject to minimization) | Route requests to the selected model to generate AI counterpart replies |
| AI model — DeepSeek V4, accessed via OpenRouter | Same conversation content as routed for inference | Generate AI counterpart conversations and responses |
Additional details and privacy-policy links are listed in Section 4.
2.4 In-app permission before AI sharing
Before we share your personal data with a third-party AI service for generating replies, the app will present a dedicated consent screen that explains:
- what data is sent,
- who receives it, and
- the purpose of the sharing.
You must choose Agree before we send that data for AI processing. If you choose Don’t agree, you will not be able to send messages that require third-party AI processing, but you may continue using other parts of the Services.
Agreeing to this Privacy Policy alone is not a substitute for that in-app AI consent where Apple/App Store rules or other laws require a separate permission.
2.5 Model training and secondary use
We do not use your conversation content to train AI models.
Message content processed for AI features is used only to generate replies for your Unsent conversations and to operate related messaging delivery. We do not use that content to train Unsent models, and we do not authorize OpenRouter / DeepSeek processing for the purpose of training models on your Unsent conversations.
2.6 AI-generated content
Content generated by AI may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate. It does not constitute professional advice. You are responsible for how you use AI-generated content. We may use automated and/or human review tools to moderate unsafe content where required for safety or legal compliance.
3. How We Share, Transfer, and Disclose Information
We share personal information only as described below.
3.1 With your consent
We share information when you give us permission (including the in-app AI consent described above).
3.2 Service providers / processors
We use vendors to help operate the Services (hosting, messaging, AI inference, analytics, customer support, security). They may process personal information only for the purposes we specify and are required to protect it at a level consistent with this Policy.
3.3 Legal and safety reasons
We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to:
- comply with law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request;
- enforce our Terms or investigate potential violations;
- protect the rights, property, or safety of Unsent, our users, or the public.
3.4 Business transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will require the successor to continue protecting your information in a manner consistent with this Policy, or we will ask for fresh consent where required.
3.5 Aggregated or de-identified information
We may share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably identify you.
4. Third-Party Information Sharing List
The following list summarizes key third parties / processing partners. We will update this list when material partners change.
| Partner / product | Operator | Data shared | Purpose / scenario | Sharing method | Partner privacy policy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unsent backend APIs | DFANS INC | Account data; message content; contacts phone numbers (for matching); device/log data as needed | Core app features, AI reply orchestration, friend matching, security | API requests to https://api.unsent.chat | This Policy |
| NetEase Yunxin IM (网易智企云信 / 网易云信 IM) | Hangzhou NetEase Quality Cloud Technology Co., Ltd. (杭州网易质云科技有限公司) | IM account identifiers; message payloads; delivery metadata; device identifiers required by the IM SDK for delivery and security | Real-time messaging / conversation delivery | Embedded SDK / server API | NetEase Yunxin Privacy Policy |
| OpenRouter (AI API gateway) | OpenRouter, Inc. | Chat content and necessary identifiers for inference | Access DeepSeek V4 to generate AI counterpart conversations and responses | API transmission | OpenRouter Privacy Policy |
| DeepSeek V4 (AI model) | Model accessed via OpenRouter, Inc. (model provider: DeepSeek) | Chat content routed for inference | Generate AI counterpart conversations and responses | Inference via OpenRouter | DeepSeek Privacy Policy |
| Apple Push Notification service (APNs) | Apple Inc. | Device push token; notification payload metadata | Deliver optional push alerts on iOS | OS push channel | Apple Privacy Policy |
Training: Unsent does not use conversation content to train AI models. Content shared with OpenRouter / DeepSeek is processed to generate replies for your conversations, not for Unsent model training.
We require these partners to use personal information only to provide the contracted services and to apply safeguards no less protective than those described in this Policy, to the extent required by applicable law and our contracts.
5. Device Permissions
The app may request the following system permissions. None of these permissions is required to enter or use the basic Services. You may skip them and enable them later.
| Permission | When we ask | If you refuse |
|---|---|---|
| Contacts | Friend discovery / matching | You can still use Home, Chats, Settings, and AI chat; contacts-based discovery is limited |
| Microphone | Voice features you choose to use | Voice features unavailable; other features remain available |
| Notifications | Optional alerts for new activity | No push alerts; you can still open the app and use messaging |
Purpose strings shown by iOS/Android describe these uses. You can change permissions in system settings at any time.
6. Cookies and Similar Technologies
On our website, we may use cookies or similar technologies to:
- keep the site working and remember preferences;
- measure traffic and improve performance;
- support security.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Some site features may not work if cookies are disabled.
The mobile app may use analogous local storage / identifiers for login state, preferences, and consent records (including AI-consent status).
7. How We Store and Protect Your Information
7.1 Retention
We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this Policy, including:
- while your account remains active;
- as needed to provide the Services and maintain conversation history you expect to see;
- for legitimate business needs (security, dispute resolution);
- as required by law.
When information is no longer needed, we delete or de-identify it within a reasonable period, subject to technical limitations and legal holds.
7.2 Security
We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7.3 Account deletion
You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information through in-app account deletion flows (where available) or by contacting privacy@unsent.chat. We will process requests as required by applicable law. Some information may remain in backups or logs for a limited period, or where we must retain it for legal reasons.
8. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights to:
- Access / portability — request a copy of personal information we hold about you
- Correction — request correction of inaccurate information
- Deletion — request deletion of personal information
- Restriction / objection — object to or request restriction of certain processing
- Withdraw consent — withdraw consents you previously gave (including AI-sharing consent and marketing, if any)
Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that lawfully occurred before withdrawal. If you withdraw AI-sharing consent, we will stop sending new chat content to third-party AI providers for reply generation; AI messaging that depends on that processing may become unavailable.
To exercise rights, email privacy@unsent.chat. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling a request.
If you are in the EEA/UK or another region with a supervisory authority, you may also lodge a complaint with that authority.
9. Children and Minors
The Services are not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum digital consent age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children below that age. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact privacy@unsent.chat and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
If you are a minor above the minimum age but under the age of majority where you live, use the Services only with parent/guardian guidance as required by local law.
10. International Transfers
DFANS INC is based in the United States. Your information may be processed in the United States and in other countries where we or our processors operate. In particular:
- Unsent API traffic is handled via
api.unsent.chatunder DFANS INC; - OpenRouter, Inc. is based in the United States and may route model inference requests internationally;
- DeepSeek model infrastructure may involve processing outside your home country;
- NetEase Yunxin (杭州网易质云科技有限公司) primarily operates from China for IM-related processing.
Those countries may have data-protection laws different from your home jurisdiction. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers (such as contractual clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms).
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice (for example in-app notice or email) as required by law.
Your continued use of the Services after an update becomes effective means you accept the updated Policy, except where a fresh consent is legally required.
